A statement from MCMC was uploaded on Facebook with regards to the viral fake news involving the Johor polls for senior citizens

The Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has urged the public to be wary of fake news urging senior citizens to not vote in the next state election in Johor.

MCMC stated that it has discovered a viral post on social media inciting seniors to not vote in the elections in order to stop the spread of COVID-19 in that age group.

“This reminder is important to avoid confusion and panic among the people that can trigger unwanted situations,” it said in a statement dated 7th February.

According to the MCMC, the public is also recommended to seek the most up-to-date information and verify accurate news from official sources, particularly the Ministry of Health (MOH) or the www.Sebenarnya.my portal.
