Malaysia and Singapore initiated the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) scheme for land and air travel on the 29th of November 2021; however, the ticket sales to enter Singapore would be temporarily suspended due to a new cluster of COVID-19 Omicron variant being detected in Singapore.
Airlines and bus operators in Malaysia would temporarily stop selling travel tickets to Singapore under the VTL scheme starting from the 23rd of December until the 20th of January 2022.
Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin made the announcement today, following the discovery of a COVID-19 cluster including the highly transmissible Omicron variant of concern in Singapore. “Following Singapore’s notification, the Ministry of Health (MoH) wishes to announce the temporary suspension of ticket sales for travel between Singapore and Malaysia,” said Khairy.
According to Khairy, “Ticket sales will resume on January 21, 2020, following risk assessments by Malaysia and Singapore”. He also stated that the ticket sales quota will be reduced at that time.
Those who have already purchased tickets can still travel to Singapore under the VTL scheme, as long as they meet the conditions, he noted.
Travellers participating in the VTL scheme can avoid obligatory quarantine but must still undergo COVID-19 testing before and after arrival.
