Malaysia Laughing Championship 2024 Found Its Winner

Johor Bahru Happy and Joyous Club (JBHJC) has found their new laughter champion in the 3rd Malaysia Laughing Championship. Meet Jayamalar Jeyaratnam, 66, from Ipoh, Perak.

JBHJC’s annually-organised contest was held online since 2021, with the objective to select a Malaysia Laughing Champion to represent Malaysia at the World Laughing Championship on 1st June 2024. The contestants were all Malaysians aged 18 and above.

The criteria on selection were based on humility, joyfulness, sparkle, contagiousness and originality. Eight contestants selected through the laughter videos submitted on registration, went through the Laughter Challenges based on the criteria as mentioned.

There were 3 elimination rounds in the contest, and 2 finalists, Catherine Lim and Jayamalar, competed in the finals.

The topics for the contest were “Your personal best Laughter”, “One animal Laughter”, “Shy Laughter” and “In the Playground Laughter”.

Spectators were from Belgium, Austria, India, Germany, USA, Japan, Australia, England, Bahrain, Mauritius, Singapore, and Malaysia.

The other 8 Malaysian contestants were Tay Chin Hung from Johor, Vimala Devi A/P A. Arunasalam, England, Catherine Lim Suat Har, Kuala Lumpur, Jayamalar A/P Jeyaratnam, Perak, Rajaperumal Visvanathan, Kuala Lumpur, Subramaniam, Perak, Koh Mui Cheng, Johor, and Vickneswari Maniam, Australia.
