Johor Corporation (JCorp), through the JCorp Foundation and Johor Land Berhad (JLand) is committed in empowering the role of the community for community development and well-being through the hydroponic greenhouse project in Perjiranan 10, Bandar Dato’ Onn.

The project, which has been built since 2021 on an area of 700 square feet, is equipped with an IoT (Internet of Things) system where more than 800 green leafy vegetable plants can be controlled and monitored online.

According to the Chairman of the JCorp Foundation, Rozaini Mohd Sani, the collective efforts between the JCorp Foundation, JLand, the local authorities and community committees are able to create active social interaction while supporting the government’s agenda in providing food security in the local community, while being able to maintain environmental sustainability.

“We hope that the initiative to create this hydroponic greenhouse project can boost urban agriculture activities and optimise the use of empty areas in this neighbourhood so that it becomes greener and more sustainable,” he added.

The Hydroponic Greenhouse Handover Ceremony to the Residents’ Association of Perjiranan 10, Bandar Dato’ Onn, Johor Bahru was completed by the Executive Director of JLand, Tuan Haji Mohd Yusof Ahmad as the official representative of the Director-In-Charge, Zamri Yusof to the Chairman of the Association, Muhammad Najib Hassan.

This type of community programme is one of the main programmes at the JCorp Foundation that is emphasised under the Community Wellbeing and Environment focus area. It is also in line with the mission of the JCorp Foundation in Empowering the Quality of Life and strengthening the ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) agenda of JCorp and its group of companies.

Meanwhile, Zamri Yusof said, in line with the mission of “Sustainable Lifestyle”, JLand remains committed to empowering the community by preserving the environment and promoting a harmonious lifestyle with nature.

“To support this mission, JLand has created a hydroponic greenhouse, also known as “rumpunKITA” as one of the ESG initiatives for the local community”.

“This green house will be expanded to other neighbourhoods run by the local community. Various interesting activities will also be arranged with the JCorp Foundation as a sign of support for the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability,” he said.

In order to ensure that this greenhouse initiative is systematically managed, an IoT Hydroponic System Operation course was organised for 50 participants from Perjiranan 10, Bandar Dato’ Onn in January 2023 which was conducted by Urban Farm Tech Sdn Bhd.

Since operating, this hydroponic greenhouse has produced over 100 kg of vegetables and has successfully benefited the local community. Among the crops that have been produced are spinach, Pak Choy, mustard and kale.
