Making Malaysia a Volunteering Hub

RM1.5 million for the implementation of the unity programme and RM800,000.00 for the operations management of the Student Volunteer Foundation

Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, Minister of National Unity has chaired the 12th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Yayasan Sukarelawan Siswa (YSS) in line with the provisions of the Companies Act 2016.

Datuk Aaron stated that the Ministry is committed to making Malaysia a Volunteering Hub. This initiative includes the implementation of seven student volunteer missions at home and abroad, the appointment of Unity Ambassadors and Unity Icons, as well as the development of the National Volunteer Policy. “I hope that YSS will continue to strive to fuel the spirit of volunteering among students in line with the slogan of Unity through Volunteering,” he said.

He also announced and appointed the new YSS leadership for the 2024-2026 session which is Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Alimuddin Mohd Dom as the Chairman, and several members of the Board of Trustees namely Datuk Ng Yih Pyng, Dr Subramaniam A/L Govindan and Razman Durhan. He has high confidence in this new line of leadership in continuing YSS’ tradition of excellence and ensuring the continued success of the organisation.

In conjunction with this AGM, Datuk Aaron has announced an allocation of RM800,000.00 for operational management and RM1.5 million for the implementation of the unity programme for the year 2024. The funds will further strengthen efforts in producing more student volunteers (Volunteer Leaders) and strengthen harmony among Malaysians.

“For the record, YSS has successfully organised The International Volunteer Cooperation Organisations (IVCO) conference at the international level in 2023 as well as two (2) student volunteer missions to Sabah and Sarawak and the Sama-Sama Festival. The performance not only strengthened the relationship between the local communities, but also contributed to the social and cultural development of the country,” added Datuk Aaron.

He also thanked Prof. Emerita Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Mazlan Binti Othman, Former Chairman and Member of the YSS Board of Trustees of 2023, Dato’ Indera Noridah binti Abdul Rahim, Dr Sathish Rao A/L Appalanaidu, Sherene Azura Azli, Prof. Dr Zainal Abidin Sanusi, and Prof. Associate Dr Soo Wincci for their contribution and commitment.
