The holiday that tells us its approaching the end of the year has arrived, probably the one that calls for making merry the most – the Yuletide season is here. Malaysians, made up of interesting layers of backgrounds and cultures, would come together to enjoy a feast to mark the final month of the year with friends, families, and work partners.
Either congratulating your little ones’ yearly accomplishments at school, exchanging catch up on milestones with friends, or just simply expressing gratitude towards people at work for giving their best this year, what is better than having a toast with a diverse group of people engulfed in endless, tasty treats ranging from the holiday’s specialty foods to local favourites?
For me, the Ren Christmas Buffet ticks all that it needs to celebrate the almost-year-end with all sorts of people to celebrate with in your life. Right from the entrance to Cafe BLD, my group of friends, whose tastebuds vary from avid local delicacy fans to adventurous foodies, were immediately lured to the delicious whiff of their favourite dishes.
It’s very hard to ignore the dessert section that is fully-decked with three different confections made into minarets, a trail of different variants of Yule log cake, and a Pink Chocolate Fountain on my way to the patio where traditional Chirstmas roasts are.
I simply couldn’t miss the chance to taste the hard-to-prepare Turkey roast – a serving of hearty turkey slices with cranberry sauce which became my appetiser, and it opened up the whole Feliz Navidad’s feasting mood for me. Next bite; the Beef Wellington with truffle sauce, the goodness in my mouth that I remember as I’m typing this, is a must try!
Meanwhile, my friend enjoyed her warm plate of Squid Ink Cappelini Pasta in Napolitano sauce and Roasted Lamb leg pieces, which set up the festive mood for her. Another companion absolutely enjoyed her serving of Lamb Kabsah and jasmine white rice, topped with the zesty Steamed Sea Fish fillet with Nyonya sauce and a Spicy Chilli Pepper Squid Ring – local taste with a bit of twist!
Before we continued our adventure to the dessert section, the seafood lovers grabbed some of the King Crab pieces on Ice with a little bit of lemon and Tabasco for some heat, while I, the one with allergies, picked up a bowl of Mexican Nachos, where I created a fusion by mixing the paprika, salt, and pepper, plain nachos, and chips to eat with garlic and beetroot hummus, mango salsa, guacamole, and extra diced onions and lime to add more taste.
The star of the buffet just had to be the dessert. We let ourselves go carefree that evening and picked up everything that we liked. Lovely slices of Fruit Cheese Cake, Devil Dream Cake, Macarons, Yule log cake and many types of bread to enjoy that were just perfect to end our holiday buffet fun time.
