The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) takes a serious view of the issues arising regarding the price and supply of legal rice seeds in the market. The supply of legal rice seeds is only issued by legal rice seed producers appointed by the Government. It has a control mechanism over the production and marketing of valid rice seeds as stated in the Standing Order of the Director General of Rice and Rice Control Number 1/2021: Government Control Over the Production and Marketing of Seeds effective 11 November  2021.

Producers or wholesalers must ensure that the sale of legal rice seeds does not exceed the quota that has been given and the price sold to retailers does not exceed the maximum price that has been set which is RM31 per 20kg seed sale at the factory gate while the maximum price is RM32 per 20kg seed including transport. For the sale of legal rice seeds at the retail level to farmers, they must not be sold for more than the maximum price of RM35 per 20kg bag.

Failure to implement these instructions and non-compliance with the Paddy and Rice Control Act 1994 [Act 522] (Akta Kawalan Padi dan Beras 1994 [Akta 522]), the Ministry through the authority of the Director General of Paddy and Rice Control has the right to cancel or suspend every license that has been issued.
