At the launch of National Training Week 2024, hosted by the Human Resource Department, Johor Menteri Besar, Dato’ Onn Hafiz Ghazi said that the Johor state government suggested the formation of the Johor Talent Development Council to supply enough skilled talent for the upcoming collaborative effort in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone. Also in attendance was Dato’ Sri Khairul Dzaimee bin Daud, Secretary General of the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA).

He shared that the state government has implemented several efforts to drive the success of the JS-SEZ.

These included organising workshops to improve the ease and convenience of business operations and to cultivate a sufficient local and state talent pool.

“On behalf of the Johor state government, I would like to propose the establishment of the Johor Talent Development Council, comprising representatives of the federal and state agencies, to ensure a healthy collaborative relationship between all parties.”

“Over 100,000 jobs (are forecasted) to be made available through the JJSEZ.”

“We would also like to request for KESUMA to be a part of the council to ensure that our talent development efforts will support the national agenda.”

“Ultimately, we want Johor to become an economic powerhouse that could be the next ‘Shenzen of Southeast Asia,” he added, before officiating the launch of NTW 2024.

There were 23,630 enrolments for the training week in the Southern Region, with 13,428 coming from Johor, the highest in the region so far
