The Johor Street Film School (JSFS) and its extension, Kapsul Studio has collaborated with Kulai-based communities at Warung Orkes & Sahmura to hold a screening of their miniseries – ‘Malaysian Like Me’ directed by Cech Andrea, the co-founder of JSFS and Kapsul Studio.
The activities were similar to the organisation’s initial screening of the series earlier at JOHO, with this time reaching out to communities in another district in Kulai, Johor. A forum was held after the screening to discuss each episode with the audience to speak their mind and thoughts after viewing.
Both co-founders of JSFS and Kapsul Studio, Cech Adrea and Haziqah Azemi were present to facilitate the forum and engage with the eager audience.
“The participation was good from the crowd where contribution from the community could help empower the local society,” said Cech in a joint-statement with Haziqah. He also shared that the forum has turned into personal sharing space which is a newer way to empower the locals.
The second screening held in Johor for ‘Malaysian Like Me’ were part of the organisation’s effort in materialising their vision to make films as a culture in the society.
“We are looking at more collaboration with local students and universities next,” Haziqah said, before sharing a fact that Kulai is one the happiest city in Malaysia according to PLAN MALAYSIA.
Bue Hasnul, the owner of Warung Orkes is a graduate of UiTM Film, Theatre and Animation (FiTA) is a friend to both the co-founders who have done extensive projects together before.
Warung Orkes together with JSFS/Kapsul Studio is looking forward to having continous collaboration to empower the film and theater community.
