The state government of Johor has given an RM500,000 e-commerce stimulus injection to Johor e-Marketplace 2.0, empowering small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to go online.

According to Menteri Besar Datuk Ir. Haji Hasni Mohamad, the allocation in the form of vouchers was brought after the success of Johor e-Marketplace 1.0, which ran until the 31st of December 2020 and produced 13,400 new vendors through the medium of e-commerce with sales of more than RM7 million.

To continue this e-commerce activity, he said, the state government has entered into a strategic partnership with Shopee Mobile Malaysia Sdn Bhd through a subsidiary of the Permodalan Darul Ta’zim group, namely the Johor Entrepreneurs Corporation (PUJB), to make the Johor e-Marketplace e-commerce platform a success for the second year.

It turns out that this effort has given great benefits to more than 18,000 businesses in Johor and out of that number, 13,400 are sellers who are new to the e-commerce medium.

“Also this year, a total of RM500,000 is provided in the form of discount vouchers that can be used by sellers and buyers who participate in Johor e-Marketplace 2.0,” he said at the launch of Johor e-Marketplace 2.0 virtually.

Hasni said the campaign will take place from the 15th of July 2021 to the 15th of November 2021, and according to a report from Shopee, to date, more than 8,000 Johor SMEs have benefited with a sales value of more than RM7 million.

He said Johor needs to be more active in developing the potential of SMEs in order to provide added value to economic progress and prosperity, especially to Johor entrepreneurs.
