The Johor government has sent a team of Southern Volunteers (SV) to Hulu Langat, Selangor, to assist the flood victims.
On Jabbar, the Deputy State Secretary of Johor said the assistance expedition was in accordance with Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim’s decree, which called for the volunteer team to assist the victims in the region.
“SV is highly responsive to Tunku Mahkota Johor’s decree yesterday, and we are dispatching 37 volunteers there today, and this is the first phase of aid, we’ll talk about the necessity for clean-up work in the second phase,” according to a statement.
“Disposable diapers for adults and children, sanitary napkins, mineral water, biscuits, and bread were among the products supplied, with a total worth of almost RM50,000.
“Everything will be handed to the district officer in Hulu Langat,” he stated. After flagging off the expedition at his office here, On, who is also the chairman of the Southern Volunteers Flood Relief Mission Contingent to Hulu Langat, told the reporters this.
Meanwhile, Chong Khai Siang, 36, an SV volunteer, expressed sympathy for the flood tragedies that struck various states, including Selangor, and stated that while his family was concerned about his safety, he was more concerned about the safety of flood victims.
“This is the first time I’ve been a part of a large-scale flood relief effort, and it’s quite emotional for me. I still want to go and offer my assistance since they are in desperately need,” said the Johor Bahru entrepreneur.
Another volunteer, M. Sivamani, 43, believes that the relief mission is critical in instilling a feeling of duty and a want to serve people of all races and religions.
“SV is always willing to aid and support others, and I am happy to be able to assist them in Hulu Langat this time.”
“It’s not my first experience, but this is a major crisis, so it’s really moving,” he explained.
Tunku Ismail has already urged SV to be ready to serve in the six states affected by the country’s current flood disaster.
