The Communications Ministry, in collaboration with the Information Department (JaPen), has set up two main media centres and 100 National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) across Johor to support media coverage of the 16th Johor state election.

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said the two main centres, located at Hotel Seri Malaysia in Johor Bahru and NADI Kampung Sabak Awor in Muar, operate daily from 9am to 9pm from June 26 until polling day on 11 July.

“We will ensure internet speeds of at least 100 Mbps. “So there should be no problem sending videos or photos,” she told reporters after visiting the Johor state election media centre at Hotel Seri Malaysia in Johor.

Aside from high-speed internet access, the centres provide laptops, desktop computers, and other amenities such as photocopiers and printers for media personnel’s convenience.

On telecommunications coverage during the campaign, Teo stated that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) would monitor telecommunications companies to ensure that internet speeds remained at optimal levels.

She also encouraged the public to download the MCMC Nexus application, which allows the commission to monitor and assess internet signal strength in real time at specific locations.

“MCMC will not share your personal information. “Only technical data, such as location and internet signal strength, will be shared with telecommunications companies to improve services,” she stated.

Teo also reminded political parties and their supporters to run healthy campaigns and avoid discussing sensitive issues such as race, religion, and royalty (3R).

She stated that MCMC would continue to collaborate with the police to monitor and remove social media content that contained elements of extreme provocation.

She also praised the Malaysian Media Council for launching a fact-checking platform and urged the public to make fact-checking a habit before sharing information.

Polling in Johor is on 11 July with early voting happening on 7 July.
