A non-governmental organisation, Stesen Pemantauan Rakyat, is providing six free buses to transport 240 voters from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore home to vote in the Johor state election on Saturday, Bernama reported.

The NGO’s representative, Yong Shui Wen, stated that the service will include four buses from Kuala Lumpur, as well as two buses for Singapore voters, who will be picked up at the Sultan Iskandar Building Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex.

Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat, Pekan Nanas, Segamat, Labis, Kluang, Ayer Hitam, and Kulai will be among the destinations served by these buses.

“Buses from Kuala Lumpur to Johor will depart at 9 p.m. on Friday.” Meanwhile, buses from the BSI CIQ Complex will depart at 9 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday,” he said to Bernama.

Yong stated that the NGO has been running the initiative since 2018 and has received an encouraging response from Johor voters living outside the state, with all available seats filled.

Meanwhile, to meet increased demand ahead of the state election, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) is doubling seating capacity for its Electric Train Service (ETS) to southern destinations from 10th to 12th July.

Datuk Azlan Shah Al Bakri, CEO of KTMB Group, stated that an additional 7,560 seats have been added to the KL Sentral-JB Sentral-KL Sentral route, bringing the total capacity to 15,120.

According to him, as of 7.45 a.m. today, 12,769 seats, or 84% of the route’s total capacity, had been sold, with only 2,351 seats remaining.

“KTMB has also increased seating capacity for the Gemas-JB Sentral-Gemas route from 630 to 4,410 seats during the same period to facilitate travel for Johor residents voting.

“As of this morning, 47%, or 2,064 seats, had been booked, with 2,346 seats remaining,” he told Bernama.

Meanwhile, a check of the KTMB Mobile app revealed that tickets for several peak-hour services this Friday and Saturday were nearly sold out, though the public has been advised to check ticket availability from time to time.

In the 16th Johor state election, 172 candidates compete for 56 seats, with 2,727,926 registered voters expected to vote on Saturday.
