The Election Commission (EC) has registered over 2.7 million voters eligible to vote in the 16th Johor state election, according to the Supplementary Electoral Roll for April 2026, which was published on 21st May 2026.

Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus, EC secretary, stated that the figure includes 2,703,175 ordinary voters and 24,751 early voters, who include police officers, General Operations Force (GOF) officers and their spouses, and members of the armed forces and their spouses.

“Of the total number of electors, 56,655 are persons with disabilities (PWDs), who will require special attention from the EC to ensure they are able to vote comfortably,” he reportedly told Bernama.

Khairul Shahril, however, stated that the figures are still subject to updates through the Supplementary Electoral Roll, which will be adopted for the election following a decision at the EC’s special meeting on 12 June.

He stated that approximately 42,000 election workers will be appointed and mobilised to handle all aspects of the state election.

The workforce will consist of 56 Returning Officers, election personnel, and security officers who will work throughout the election period.

The EC is currently reviewing and updating information on the polls’ operational and logistical requirements.

“Fundamentally, the cost of conducting an election is determined by several factors, including the number of registered voters, polling stations and polling streams, the appointment of election personnel, logistical requirements, and the use of information and communications technology,” he stated.

Khairul Shahril also stated that the EC is committed to optimising the use of public resources and expenditure to ensure that elections are conducted efficiently, prudently, and in accordance with operational requirements.

The Johor State Legislative Assembly was dissolved on 1st June 2026, with the EC scheduled to determine key dates for the state election at its special meeting on 12th June 2026.

The meeting will also decide the election timeline for Negeri Sembilan’s state polls.
