The early voting process for the 16th Johor State Election (PRN), which included security personnel and spouses, ended today at 5 p.m., when all 62 early voting centres were closed, Bernama reported.
The polling centres, which opened as early as 8 a.m., were closed in stages based on the area and number of registered voters determined by the Election Commission.
Earlier, EC Chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun announced at a press conference at Kluang’s Mahkota Hall, Kem Mahkota, that 29 early voting centres closed at 12 p.m.
In addition, five early voting centres closed at 2 p.m., with the remaining 28 closing at 5 p.m.
The early voting drew 20,607 voters, including 8,544 members of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), 12,063 members of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), and members of the Operation Force (PGA), along with their spouses.
As of 3 p.m., the EC reported that 19,136, or 92.86 percent, of early voters had completed their tasks.
The Election Commission expects a voter turnout of 96% for today’s early voting in the Johor state election.
All early ballot boxes will be stored at the police station before the official vote counting process takes place on regular polling day, this Saturday.
This Johor state election has 2,727,926 eligible voters across 1,140 polling stations.
In total, 172 candidates ran for 56 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats in the 16th Johor State Election.
