The security and coordination plans for the 2026 Chingay Parade, scheduled for 6th – 10th March, have been finalised by Johor Police.

The festival, which is being organised by the Johor Bahru Tiong Hua Association with assistance from the Johor Bahru chapters of the Hainan Association, Kwong Siew Wai Kuan Association, Hokkien Huay Kuan Association, and Teochew Eight Districts Association, will conclude on 9th March at the Muhibbah Stage, KOMTAR JBCC, according to Johor Police Chief CP Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad.

He said there will be 88 decorated floats and 23 lion and dragon dance groups in this year’s parade. It is anticipated that there will be about 200,000 visitors and one million online viewers.

“In the city centre, the parade route will pass a surau and three mosques. In order to maintain peace and public order, Johor police have considered religious and cultural sensitivities because the event takes place during Ramadan, he said in a statement.

According to Ab Rahaman, key measures include noise control, coordinated scheduling, and strict adherence to the approved route to ensure that Muslim worship during Ramadan is not disrupted while the Chinese community’s cultural celebrations can continue as planned.

He stated that police readiness is sufficient, with comprehensive security and traffic management plans in place to protect public safety and ensure smooth traffic flow throughout the programme.

Ab Rahaman emphasised that police would not tolerate provocation, actions that endanger public order, or inflammatory and racist content on social media.

“Anyone attempting to incite tension or disrupt interfaith and interracial harmony will face firm action in accordance with existing laws.

“To avoid congestion during the celebrations, members of the public should follow official instructions and plan their journeys ahead of time,” he added.
