Johor Cycling Team Gets a New Joint Venture

RM60 million velodrome to open ahead of SUKMA 2020

The Johor State cycling team now rebranded as Iskandar Johor Cycling Team with the involvement of Iskandar Malaysia’s catalytic developer Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB) as its main sponsor has launched the team’s latest jersey at the EduCity Sports Complex in Iskandar Puteri, Johor.

Making its first appearance in CIMB Foundation National Junior Stage Race 2019 cycling championship, IIB and MSNJ are working together to materialise a cycling development programme in Iskandar Puteri to support the initiative.

The launch marks the joint venture between IIB and Majlis Sukan Negeri Johor (MSNJ) in uplifting the cycling sports profile and boosting new cycling talent in Johor. “The launch marks a significant joint venture between IIB and MSNJ to ensure that Johor continues to remain as the national-level cycling riders ‘hotbed’, thus contributing to the development of the larger national talent pool. IIB will continue to support the Iskandar Johor Cycling Team as IIB’s initiative for the community development agenda, particularly in the area of sports”.

MSNJ’s Director, Mohd Gadaffie Abd Aziz has announced the construction of Johor’s very own velodrome that is expected to open by March to April in 2020. The RM60 million development would be the 4th velodrome in Malaysia and following strict guidelines of Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), it would provide a track with roof covering making it the state of the art venue suitable to host international competitions.

Adding even more excitement with this collaboration is Johor born former national track cycling trainer, Junaidi Mohd Nasir and Noor Azian Alias who would be training the state’s athletes for both track and highway.

The Iskandar Johor Cycling Team would be competing in the 2019 Tour De Lingga Jati Cycling Championship, West Java, Indonesia from the 12th to 16th September 2019 as part of the international exposure stints arranged by MSNJ.
