Persada International Convention Centre, known amongst locals simply as Persada, has announced its closure through its official social media pages on 1st September 2026.
The message on its post reads: “Almost two decades. Thousands of events. Countless moments that brought Johor together.
“Persada Johor has been part of our state’s story, from major gatherings and international events to celebrations and milestones shared by generations of Johoreans. As we close this chapter, we simply want to say, Terima kasih, Persada Johor! Join us as we look back at some of the moments that made Persada a part of Johor’s story. More details will be announced at a later date.”
The post ended with a promise of entailing details soon to be made public.
Persada was known to have held many prestigious events, and among them was hosting a world-record-breaking event for the longest fruit tart served, measuring 221.63 metres (m), surpassing the previous record of 2,333 tarts, measuring 186.64 m, recorded in 2018, during the opening ceremony of World Chefs Championship 2025, which was jointly organised by Tourism Johor and the Malaysian Culinary Masters Association, from 29th to 31st May 2025.
The first COVID vaccination in Johor during the movement control order period was held in Persada on 7th June 2021, administering AstraZeneca for the most vulnerable members of society, like the elderly and those terminally ill.
Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, during his first 100 days of administration post-covid as the state’s Menteri Besar, has held its mandate announcement in Persada on the 14th of June 2022.
Persada also made its mark as the first convention centre in Malaysia to join UNGCMYB, the world’s largest corporate sustainability effort, encouraging firms to align their operations with 10 widely agreed principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption on 20th July 2023.
