Malaysia will be hosting the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Malaysia 2025 marking Malaysia’s return as a host for a commercial cricket event after 16 years – the last one was for ICC U19 Men’s World Cup in 2008.

“Now, in 2025, we are excited to welcome the world once again, this time for the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Malaysia 2025,” said Mohammed Iqbal Ali Kassim Ali, President of Malaysia Cricket Association.

Sixteen high-profile teams from across the globe will compete in this prestigious tournament, serving as a launching pad for the next generation of cricket stars.

Taking place from 18th January to 2nd February 2025, it will feature 16 teams from around the globe, divided into four groups of four teams each. In the group stage, each team will compete in a round-robin format within their group, playing a total of 41 matches across four Malaysian venues in Dato’ Dr Harjit Singh Johor Cricket Academy (JCA Oval), Johor, Bayuemas Oval in Selangor, Borneo Cricket Ground, Sarawak, and UKM YSD Oval in Selangor.

In Johor, the Dato’ Dr Harjit Singh JCA Oval will host Group B matches, with exciting clashes between England, Pakistan, Ireland, and the USA. The competition kicks off with England taking on Ireland, followed by Pakistan against the USA.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Six stage, where they will be divided into two pools. Teams will carry forward their points from the group stage to the Super Six, ensuring that every match is crucial.

The top two teams from each Super Six pool will then progress to the semi-finals, leading up to the grand final on 2nd February 2025, at Bayuemas Oval, where the tournament’s first match scheduled on 13th January, 2025 will also be held.

Dr. Professor Faidz, President of Johor Cricket Council, said, “Hosting this tournament offers more than just thrilling matches. It is an opportunity for Johor to contribute to economic activities and tourism, with teams, officials, and fans from around the world coming to experience not only world-class cricket but also Johor’s rich cultural heritage.”

“Women’s cricket forms part of the ICC’s priority projects to deliver transformative growth under its global growth strategy. This event aims to leave a lasting legacy in the region, growing girls’ and women’s participation in every facet of the game, from on-field action to administration.

We aim to educate players on the integrity of the sport, brand building, the correct use of social media, and interacting positively with the media. We will also support match officials in delivering the highest standards of officiating at the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup,” Mohammed Iqbal added.

“We are committed to creating an environment that will enable young female cricketers to connect, grow, and thrive. Our goal is to deliver a world-class event experience for all participants.”

“As this will be the first event experience of this nature for most participants, we are dedicated to giving them an experience to remember, setting a standard for future events to follow and surpass. We will also provide a safe and secure environment for all participants to enjoy,” he concluded.

The first edition of the ICC U19 Women’s World Cup, held in South Africa in 2023, was won by India.
