‘Iskandar Rapid Transit’ has been announced as the winner of the IMBRT Brand Name Contest for the upcoming Bus Rapid Transit system in Iskandar Malaysia by Menteri Besar Johor, Datuk Ir. Haji Hasni Mohammad.
Iskandar Rapid Transit, the winning name submitted by Syazlina binti Jasni, was one of more than 200 entries received by IRDA for the IMBRT Brand Name Contest. The contest was held by IRDA from April to May 2021. The Brand Name Contest’s grand prize winner will earn RM5,000, while the second and third place winners will receive RM3,000 and RM2,000, respectively, as well as a one-year Iskandar Rapid Transit Travel Pass.
Hasni said that based on the participation and creative submissions from the public that IRDA received, he is proud that the public (namely Johoreans) are excited and looking forward to welcoming the new integrated public transport service in Iskandar Malaysia and the first comprehensive BRT system in Malaysia.
“With our vision for Iskandar Malaysia to be a strong and sustainable metropolis of international standing by 2025, we believe that Iskandar Rapid Transit will increase the mobility of the people in the state and become the backbone of public infrastructure connecting to the main transportation hubs in Iskandar Malaysia, Senai Airport, RTS, Larkin Sentral, Puteri Harbour,” he added, citing of being proud that the public, particularly Johoreans, are looking forward to the new integrated public transportation service in Iskandar Malaysia and the first comprehensive BRT system in Malaysia, based on the participation of the contest.
From the start, Iskandar Rapid Transit has worked closely with the Rakyat to build the Bus Rapid Transit system, holding various focus groups, surveys, exhibits and displays, as well as test rides during the recently concluded Bus Pilot Test Programme. The inclusion of the Rakyat’s involvement and comments, according to IRDA, is critical to the success of this public transportation system.
From November 2021 to December 2021, IRDA will host the Iskandar Rapid Transit Logo Design Contest as a prologue to the Iskandar Rapid Transit operations and as a follow-up to the Brand Name Contest. Each of the ten winners of the Iskandar Rapid Transit Logo Design Contest will get RM15k in prize money and a one-year Iskandar Rapid Transit Travel Pass.
In 2022, IRDA will conduct an Iskandar Rapid Transit Bus Livery and Iskandar Rapid Transit Station Installation Contest to further encourage public participation throughout the development of the service.
The project has identified feeder, direct, and major routes that cover 2,043 kilometres, or almost 90% of Iskandar Malaysia’s populous regions.
The Iskandar Rapid Transit system will be able to link 55 feeder lines and 44 direct routes when it is fully operational, with the core route encompassing 28 stops.
