Hear and see ‘The Expression of Merdeka’ by the next generation
On 27th August, 2019, M Suites Hotel Johor Bahru had organised a drawing competition for the second consecutive year as well as hosting the final round for public speaking competition, in collaboration with Johor Bahru District Education Office (PPD). Both the competitions aimed to encourage local Johorean students to express their understanding of nationhood and independence.
The competition was aligned with the theme of Malaysia’s 62nd Independence Day, “Sayangi Malaysiaku, Malaysia Bersih”, meaning “Love Our Malaysia, A Clean Malaysia,” stressing on the importance of being united and patriotic for the well-being of the people and shared prosperity. The programme allowed participants to depict and express the meaning of Merdeka through their individual sense of patriotism and reflects M Suites Hotel’s commitment to smart partnerships between government agencies and corporate partners with a view towards enriching the local community, particularly in relation to education.
The programme which involved 160 students from 30 primary schools and 21 secondary schools within the district of Johor Bahru, was held for two (2) hours starting from 2.00pm until 4.00pm. The artworks produced by the participants were judged by invited panel from Yayasan Warisan Johor Art Gallery led by Ahmad Eruan bin Adnan Johor Secondary School Visual Art Technical Director.
In the English public speaking competition, 10 students from primary and secondary schools competed at the final stage held at Milenia Hall, M Suites Hotel. The winners were separated into Primary and Secondary schools students for both drawing and public speaking, totalling to 4 categories and 12 winners.
Tuan Haji Shaharuddin Bin Saari, Johor Bahru PPD Officer officiated the closing ceremony for the programme before presenting the prizes to all winners with Datin Dr. Maimunah Abdul Rahman, Executive Director of M Suites Hotel.
