Buffets are something that we could categorise as a luxury and sometimes, I do crave the intimacy of close-knit family and friends enjoying just a couple of dishes and focussing more on our conversation and time together. Ponderosa Golf and Country Club’s ‘Citarasa Serantau’ (Local Flavours) replicates the best of the family get together, especially for this fasting season.
Presented in a ‘dulang’ (a round, large dish tray), a local could trace back their memories when family and close neighbours would gather to eat in groups out of a dulang.
The Citarasa Serantau comes in two types – Muhibbah and Biryani sets, and the meals could be shared with up to 6 people. The Muhibbah set consists of Asam Pedas, Daging Salai and Ayam Percik to choose from and is accompanied by plain rice, Loh Han Chai (mix vegetable), omelette, salted fish, salted egg, ulam-ulaman, sambal belacan, mixed fruits and Malay kuih.
Meanwhile, the Biryani set has a serving of Daging Rendang Tok or we could swap it with Biryani Kambing and Chicken Curry with sides of Papadum, Egg Curry, Vegetable Dalcha, Acar Rampai, Malay Kuih and mixed fruits.
As I got to gather with six other ladies, we really enjoyed our Biryani Set and cleared it in no time!
The best part is the minimum effort to walk your “bloat” off for a bit before indulging in other tasty local Malay dishes such as Asam Pedas, Rendang Daging and definitely the fresh ulam-ulaman with the perfect concoction of sambal to go with.
One should not miss out on the popular Ponderosa’s teh tarik which is the perfect way to end the meal or as you talk over a few sips and nibbling into some delicious cendol-based kuih talam.
