Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast returned to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Adela on 24th July 2026 to officiate the school’s Edible Garden, developed through a USD5,000 Hard Rock Heals Foundation Grant awarded on 14th November 2025.
Created as a learning resource for students under the Integrated Special Education Programme Unit (PPKI), the garden now provides opportunities to apply practical skills in a real-world learning environment.
The initiative forms part of the students’ classroom and vocational learning activities, with participants involved in planting, maintaining and harvesting herbs used in pizza toppings, simple baked goods and classroom learning kits.
Beyond gardening and food preparation, students also take part in basic selling and customer-facing activities, giving them opportunities to practise communication, build confidence and develop greater independence in everyday situations.
The project reflects the hotel’s wider ESG commitment to creating meaningful community impact through education, while supporting SMK Adela’s teacher-led approach to vocational and life-skills development for PPKI students.
This local effort forms part of a broader network of community initiatives supported by the Hard Rock Heals Foundation, the charitable arm of Hard Rock International. Through its annual grant programme, participating properties nominate local beneficiaries across key focus areas, including children’s wellness, support and education.
In 2025, the Foundation awarded USD250,000 in grants to 50 organisations across 15 countries, with SMK Adela among the recipients representing Malaysia.
