After months of temporary closure, Petrosains, The Discovery Centre and XPLORASI-Petrosains Gift Shopin Suria KLCC reopened its doors to the public on 16th March 2021. The reopening of business operations was in line with the announcement made by the Government to allow the operations of establishments under the Tourism and Culture Sectors within the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) areas.
Petrosains is committed to ensure the health and safety of its visitors and staff. It has conducted stringent sanitising and disinfecting and ensured all staff to undergo COVID-19 testing prior to the opening. It will also continuously step up all precautionary measures and implement necessary safety guidelines, in compliance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by the Government authorities.
Petrosains is open from 9.30am to 5.30pm with last admission at 4.00pm from Tuesday to Sunday. It is closed every Monday. To provide a safe visit experience, Petrosains will limit visiting slots by capping it at 50% capacity and implement strict physical distancing measures.
Visitors will be required to complete a health declaration form, register using the MySejahtera app and undergo temperature screening before entering the premises. Visitors of all ages must also wear a face mask at all times and practice good personal hygiene such as washing hands with soap and water or use hand sanitisers.
Additionally, exhibits and facilities will be cleaned and disinfected regularly. However, certain hands-on and interactive exhibits will be temporarily closed due to hygiene purposes. The number of visitors allowed in learning rooms, Maker Studio, Mini Show areas as well as during Science Shows will also be limited in order to maintain physical distancing.
To welcome back visitors to the centre, Petrosains is offering a special promotion for its membership programme – The Discoverer’s League. The public can now enjoy unlimited visits to Petrosains, free entry to Science Centres and Museums worldwide under the Association of Science – Technology Centres (ASTC) as well as other deals and discounts to fuel your exploration at the low price of RM100 for family package (2 Adults and 3 Children), RM50 for adults and RM25 for Children. This promotion will be valid from 16th to 31st March 2021.
Petrosains also celebrated its 22nd Anniversary on 25th March 2021. Established by PETRONAS in 1999 as its Corporate Social Responsibility arm in the pillar of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education, Petrosains has reached and engaged with millions of visitors and audiences through its main center in Suria KLCC and its outreach offerings. With the aim of inspiring people through the delivery of impactful learning experiences, Petrosains has established many outreach offerings including mini science centres across the nation (Petrosains PlaySmarts), travelling exhibitions (PETRONAS StreetSmart), national level competition (Petrosains RBTX Challenge ), community events (Petrosains Science Festival) for the past 22 years. To show its appreciation to visitors and stakeholders for supporting Petrosains for the past 22 years, Petrosains has lined up some exciting activities to celebrate the occasion.
To kick-off the celebration, Petrosains conducted a special anniversary edition of its online forum ‘STEM Live’ on 24th March 2021, which featured discussions on the challenges of the digital world. Special give-aways were issued to its first 22 customers who walked in and purchased admission tickets at the ticketing counter on the morning of 25th March 2021. Additionally, visitors can look forward to Petrosains’ special anniversary science shows at the centre and a Petrosains special anniversary sale will be held via Petrosains’ Facebook Live page.
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Petrosains has stepped up its digital presence by providing various online offerings to help keep children and adults alike occupied, informed and mentally stimulated. After more than two months of temporary closure since 13th January 2021, Petrosains is excited to welcome back visitors to our discovery centre and continue to entertain and educate the public in the informal learning of STEM (Science, Technology, Education and Mathematics).
