The official launch of “The Insider’s Guide to Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ)” was held at Crescendo International College, accompanied by a high-level forum titled “Protectionism Meets Partnership: Unlocking the JS-SEZ in a Tariff-Tense World.”
The Guest of Honour, Liew Chin Tong, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), delivered an impactful keynote, emphasising the strategic role of the JS-SEZ in enhancing Malaysia-Singapore bilateral cooperation and regional investment attractiveness. His address underscored the importance of resilience, connectivity, and policy clarity in navigating global trade uncertainties.
The forum featured an esteemed panel comprising Dr Chen Gang, Deputy Director of the East Asia Institute at the National University of Singapore, and Tommy Xie, Head of Asia Macro Research at OCBC Bank Singapore, who moderated the session. Together with the book’s co-authors, Chan Wei Khjan and Prakash Nagarajan, the panel explored the potential of the JS-SEZ to catalyse sustainable growth, attract foreign direct investment, and deepen economic integration across the Strait.
The book, the first of its kind focused exclusively on the Johor-Singapore SEZ, serves as an essential investment guide for international and regional stakeholders. It consolidates policy insights, tax and regulatory frameworks, and practical entry strategies to assist foreign investors exploring opportunities in the region.
Co-author Chan Wei Khjan, a Chartered Accountant in both Malaysia and Singapore with over 18 years of experience in audit and business advisory, serves as the Lead Advisor for JS-SEZ at YYC Group. Leveraging YYC’s 51-year track record in helping enterprises set up operations, navigate taxation, and expand across Southeast Asia, the book reflects a practical, hands-on approach to investment facilitation.
The event attracted a distinguished audience of over 80 representatives from government agencies, multinational companies, chambers of commerce, legal and financial institutions, including officials from OCBC Bank, National University of Singapore, Johor Bahru Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Malaysian Retail Chain Association, and the Singapore-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce.
This milestone event marks a critical step in empowering stakeholders with credible, localized knowledge as Johor positions itself as the economic frontier of Southeast Asia under the JS-SEZ initiative.
