Breaking fast at the Makan Kitchen in DoubleTree by Hilton Johor Bahru always feels like a luxurious dining experience because of the variety and premium ingredients used in their buka puasa buffet. This year’s buffet is definitely worth the visit.
The scent of smoked bukhoor (Middle East’s incense) and hot Serawa Durian laced together greets and entices you to quickly fill your plate with their extensive ensemble of food.
Sent right to our table was a hearty serving of the Slow Cooked Hyderabad Style Clay Pot “Lamb Shank Biryani” which is a marvellous entree for the fasting folks to gain some energy back before tracing all the food at the buffet counters.
It was even better with the delectable Bubur Lambuk Tetel, made up of rich broth and generous amount of seeds, nuts and chives. That is the perfect seasonal favourite’s porridge served Johor’s style.
I did not miss the opportunity to pair my fluffy jasmine rice with the fragrant, durian-based, Patin Tempoyak together with another local’s favourite and hot-from-the-wok Asam Pedas Ikan Siakap. Save some space to try the Beef Rendang paired with Lemang and Ketupat, or go Middle Eastern with the classic Doner Kebab/Shawarma. If you want Oriental, help yourselves to the Peking Duck Roll that works as a perfect appetiser.
For desserts, do try the Kunafa Cheese that runs out pretty fast!
