Maybank and EduCity Iskandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd have teamed up to open Maybank@EduCity in EduCity Hub, Iskandar Puteri, to provide basic banking and financial advising services to university students and campus teaching staff.
Maybank@EduCity, according to a press release issued by EduCity Iskandar on July 2nd, is the ninth Maybank centre of its sort in Malaysia.
“Maybank will provide EduCity students with various of financial literacy programmes, as well as potential internship possibilities, entrepreneurial mentoring programmes, and financial aid through the Maybank EduCity Education Loan.”
“Through its full range of fundamental banking services and financial products, Maybank@EduCity will be able to fulfil the financial needs of the broader EduCity community,” it stated.
Through its Cashless Community Campaign, EduCity will be positioned as a Cashless Campus Champion as a result of the collaboration.
Datuk Nora Abd Manaf, Maybank’s Chief Human Capital Officer, and Datuk Khairil Anwar Ahmad, President/Chief Executive Officer of Iskandar Investment Bhd (IIB) and Chairman of EduCity Iskandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd, officiated the virtual launch.
Khairil Anwar said in his welcoming remarks that the hub provides a free space for students to hold group discussions as well as other services such as event or training rooms and content production.
Nora added that Maybank@EduCity is also a centre that promotes financial literacy through workshops and webinars, with the goal of preparing today’s students to become financially savvy adults tomorrow.
“To complement this campaign and encourage more young people to become entrepreneurs, we’re launching the Digital Entrepreneur initiative, which aims to provide young entrepreneurs with the tools and expertise they need to succeed in the digital world,” she said.
EduCity, a wholly owned subsidiary of IIB, a government-linked company established to encourage the long-term development of Iskandar Malaysia, was founded in 2008 as a fully integrated education city in Iskandar Puteri, Johor. There are currently 14 local and international education partners based there.
