“Sustainability is not CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility),” said Edey Suresh, Director of UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (UNCGMYB) at Johor Smart City Forum (JCSF) 2023’s Tech Talk session, a programme under the collaboration between Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) through the MPC Southern Region, Logistics Productivity Nexus (LPN) and MSC Cyberport Berhad.

“Sustainability is a business strategy, and the strategies can include reducing energy and water consumption, reducing waste, and investing in renewable energy. Companies can also focus on green supply chain management, responsible sourcing, and ethical labour practices. By implementing these strategies, companies can improve their operational efficiency and reduce their environmental impact,” he said in the session titled ESG for All: Making Sustainability Accessible and Actionable.

“Sustainability is a business strategy that focuses on long-term profitability and environmental stewardship. It seeks to create value for the company, its stakeholders, and the environment,” said Edey to almost 80 industry players who joined this session.

The session discussed Key Factors to Pursue Sustainability and Setting Achievable Targets for businesses.

United Nations Global Compact was launched in July 2000 by Kofi Annan, and the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) is the World’s Largest Business Sustainability Initiative.

With over 21,000 business participants worldwide and over 220 business participants in Malaysia, the UNGC has 69 local offices all over the world helping companies with their Sustainability journey.

MPC, a partner of UNGCMYB has stated its commitment to facilitating the materialisation of the initiatives outlined in the Johor Smart City Blueprint 2030 to achieve the Johor Productive Agenda.

Johor Smart City Forum (JCSF) 2023, which took place at Persada, Johor from June 12-14, 2023, is a National-Level forum organised by the state government of Johor through PLANS@Malaysia and several agencies, with a primary focus on discussion and sharing regarding urban management and the technological revolution in order to develop human-centric smart cities.
