Coca-Cola Bottlers (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. has recently led a successful beach cleanup program in Malaysia, setting the bar for environmental care. The largest beverage corporation in the world promoted sustainability as part of the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) campaign, in conjunction with World Cleanup Day 2023, in collaboration with prestigious organisations.

CCBM organised around 60 enthusiastic volunteers from its volunteer arm, the SiMAJU Kindness Crew, to clean up two well-known local beaches: Pantai Saujana in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, and Desaru Offshore Fishing in Kota Tinggi, Johor. These beautiful coasts were cleaned of more than 1.4 tons of marine garbage.

The cleanup effort also yielded encouraging results, with volunteers successfully removing over 1,400 kg of waste and collecting an estimated 4,900 items including foam containers, plastic cups, plastic plates, and cigarette butts.

“The effort reflects our unwavering commitment to driving positive change and advancing sustainable practices. As a trailblazer in the industry, we are actively working towards our vision of a World Without Waste and reducing the impact of plastic waste on our precious oceans,” said Khairul Anwar Ab Gahani, Public Affairs, Communications, and Sustainability Director Malaysia-Singapore-Brunei Coca-Cola Bottling Investments Group.

In an effort to combat plastic pollution and make a real difference, CCBM this year partnered with Reef Check Malaysia for the fifth consecutive year and collaborated with organizations like the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (Johor) and Kolej Komuniti Rembau Port Dickson, SWM Environment, and Majlis Perbandaran Pengerang.

“We remain committed to responsible waste management, ensuring that recyclable items are properly handled. At CCBM, we firmly believe that addressing the global plastic packaging waste crisis necessitates collaboration among industry stakeholders, government entities, and civil society. Our proactive actions demonstrate our dedication to being part of the solution,” said Khairul.
