The Els Club Desaru Coast – Ocean Course hosted the first Golf Amal Pengerang 2025, which was a major step towards encouraging community involvement and boosting sports tourism in Pengerang, Johor. More than 80 people, mostly from the Johor area, attended the event, including corporate executives, industry leaders, senior government officials, and golf enthusiasts.
With the help of Tourism Johor and Majlis Perbandaran Pengerang (MPP), the tournament was organised with the goal of raising money for Yayasan Makmur Pengerang (YMP), with all proceeds going towards projects that improve the welfare of local communities in the Pengerang area.
Mohammad Nazrul bin Abd Rahim, of Majlis Perbandaran Pengerang, stated that Golf Amal Pengerang is more than just a sporting event; it is a potent platform to spark cooperation and fortify ties between the public sector, business leaders, and the larger community.
“As a local government, we are dedicated to forming significant alliances that can propel Pengerang’s development in all directions. We are able to establish trust, interact directly with important stakeholders, and generate long-term value for the area through occasions such as these. It also enables us to promote Pengerang as a developing location with both lifestyle appeal and economic potential. We see this as the start of something greater, and our goal is to establish Golf Amal Pengerang as a yearly event that unites destination branding, networking, and goodwill into a single, powerful platform,” he said in a statement.
The Johor Golf Tourism Association (JGTA) President, Col. Mohd Jamal Salleh, conveyed his appreciation by saying, “The tremendous support from our sponsors, partners, and participants has been crucial to the success of this first event. It demonstrates Pengerang’s strong sense of community and dedication to improving the city.
Four Hole-in-One prizes, Nearest-to-the-Pin, Nearest-to-the-Line, Longest Drive, Top 3 Best Teams, and the Golf Amal Pengerang Challenge Trophy were among the prize categories offered in the tournament.
The Champion Team consisted of Khairuddin, Norhasimi, Irwan Iskandar and Rislan Kassim. The First Runner-Up Team’s members made up of Akmal Hijaz Bin Ahmad Rustami, Hj Abdul Halim Bin Abdullah, Azhar Mohamed and Shaharfuddin Bon Sarif while the Second Runner-Up Team’s members are Norzaidi Ahmad Fuad, Ahmad Tarmimi bin Tahang, Izzat Razin Ali Bakri and Fariz Jaffar.
Col. Jamal added, “This is the first collaboration between JGTA and MPP, and we are very pleased with the response and support from the golf fraternity in Johor. We look forward to another round of a bigger and more successful Golf Amal Pengerang in 2026.”
He further noted, “Desaru Coast is a family-friendly holiday destination offering a rich variety of attractions, including world-class golf courses. With its many value-added experiences, it stands out as a compelling choice for both leisure and sports travellers. As JGTA is tasked with promoting golf tourism in Johor, we feel very blessed that the state is home to several internationally recognised golf courses that deliver exceptional value. Since our inception in 2016, we have consistently organised numerous tournaments annually, attracting a strong following, particularly from Singapore and Korea. Looking ahead, we are committed to expanding our calendar to include more high-impact tournaments, including international championships and youth-focused events, to further elevate Johor’s standing on the regional golf tourism map.”
