Petrosains, The Discovery Centre celebrated the first day of the Year of the Dragon with an extraordinary display of traditional music and energetic Lion Dance performance, embracing and celebrating cultural diversity.
Adorned with vibrant decorations symbolising prosperity, the science centre welcomed visitors to a special experience, blending the wonders of science with the joyous spirit of Chinese New Year on the first day of the festive.
Lecturer Noor Izzati Nadia, 30, who visited the centre with her family that day thought that Petrosains was a fun place. The mother of two said, “It was a unique experience where many families seemed to be enjoying themselves. Having the Lions inside the science centre was certainly something new.”
In addition to capturing unforgettable moments with the Lion Dance troupe, visitors also got to strike their dragon poses at the specially designed Chinese New Year photobooth, spreading the joy and spirit of the Spring Festival with their loved ones.
As the social impact arm of PETRONAS to cultivate Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) talents across the nation, Petrosains is committed to creating an inclusive space that brings together the wonders of science and the joy of cultural celebrations for visitors of all backgrounds.
With some 300 exhibits, Petrosains offers diverse exhibitions in themed galleries, including Space, an exploration of the wonders of astronomy; Paleo to Petroleum, providing insights into life on Earth during prehistoric times; and Sparkz, introducing basic science concepts through hands-on approaches. Other exhibition areas encompass the Oil Platform, offering a realistic experience on an offshore oil rig; Molecule Nano World, showcasing the marvels of chemistry and petrochemicals, and the newly upgraded SPEED, which in January 2024, saw the addition of a stunning replica of the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 W13, the very car that George Russell drove in his debut season with the team in 2022.
Petrosains also places strong emphasis on sustainability through STEM learning, featuring the Energy Capsule—an autonomous ride offering light and music experiences, narrating the next technological revolution required to address current real-world issues and future challenges.
Similarly, the Sustainability Gallery also aims to educate visitors on measuring and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, exploring new energy options, and integrated solutions to meet the global demand for energy.
Also present at Saturday’s celebration was Petrosains Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Ezarisma Azni Mohamad, highlighting the significance of the festive occasion in promoting diversity and inclusiveness at the science centre.
