Is it possible to travel to the biggest continent in the world in one night? Renaissance Hotel Johor Bahru made that possible with their Pan Asian Dinner buffet, specially laid out for the months of May to July.
Overwhelmed by choices? My tip is to either get started with something familiar for your first round of plates or go ahead and pick up what you don’t usually get in the daily. Prime examples from this buffet are Oysters on Fire and Korean Poached Pear with Peppercorn.
I started off with the fragrant Indian Lamb Biryani in Bamboo. The generous amount of lamb pieces paired so well with the fluffy, biryani rice that is rich with raisins and cashew nuts. Personally, I like the way it is served where the portion is safe for one, and if people want more, they could get another block of bamboo. Less food wastage this way!
Meanwhile, my table-mate took a trip to Thailand by indulging in the highly recommended Water Prawn Tom Yam by Renaissance Johor Bahru’s General Manger, Kanit Sangmookda, because it is his very own recipe! Next stop was South Korea, with the chewy Tteokpokki or Rice Cakes swimming in thick, spicy soup.
I’m not done with rice yet, and decided to get creative by having the Indian Lemon Rice with the slightly sweet, Green Chicken Curry and incredible, savoury Philippines’s Kare-kare Oxtail stew which I think is a perfect team.
Love a little of fusion in your food? Try your hands on the Creamy Korean Spicy Beef Pasta and Tandoori Chicken Pizza – the perfect meal for your picky little ones.
The choice of desserts are immense in Cafe BLD’s buffet as usual and I gleefully picked up the sticks of Taiwanese Sugar Coated Fruits and Cherry Tomato – something I’ve always seen sold in Taiwanese drama and finally had the chance to try it! The cruncy, candied fruits and tomatoes were perfect to conclude my meal, not forgetting the popular Mango Sticky Rice and Chinese Muah Chee with surprise fillings like durian!
