ASEAN Tourism Golf Tournament to Inject Tourists for Visit Johor Year 2020

More than 200 golfers to take part in the golf tournament this coming February

Johor Golf Tourism Association (JGTA), an independent member-based association that provides support to all the golf fraternities in promoting Johor as the ultimate golf destination and experience is all set to be the organiser for ASEAN Tourism Golf Tournament.

Announced at a grand launch ceremony of the ASEAN Tourism Golf Tournament in Phuket Golf Country Club, Thailand on 1st December 2019 as part of Visit Truly Asia Malaysia 2020 promotions, the ASEAN Tourism Golf Tournament will be a 3-legged tour with the first one to be hosted in Johor at the Els Club Desaru Coast – Ocean Course and Vijay Singh’s The Els Club Desaru Coast – Valley Course on the 16th and 17th February 2020.

The second leg will be held in June at the Phuket Golf Country Club and Loch Palm Golf Club in Phuket, Thailand. The third leg will be held in September at Club Golf Bogor Raya and Rainbow Hill Golf Club in Bogor, Indonesia. the final round and closing ceremony will be held on the 5th and 6th December 2020 at the Mahkota Golf & Country Club and Lanjut Beach & Golf Resort in Pahang.

Col. Mohd Jamal Salleh, the President of Johor Golf Tourism Association (JGTA) is confident that this tournament will act as a stimulus in promoting the other tourism sectors in Johor as well such as high-end attractions, natural tourism spots, water sports, wellness and spa, medical, education, shopping, food, arts & culture, and many more that can attract high-end tourists from ASEAN.

According to him, the golf tourism industry in Johor receives an average of between 500,000 to 600,000 golfers each year mostly coming from Singapore, South Korea and Japan, and this number is expected to grow this year due to the increased promotional initiatives to boost the golf industry for Visit Johor Year 2020.
