An Unforgettable Enjoyment of Muhibbah Tapestry Buffet 2026 at St Giles Johor Bahru

From local favourites to the adventurous Mediterranean dishes, there is something for everyone at the Causeway Cafe

From northern Penang to southern Johor, Rojak Pasembur is here for you to make to your liking

When it comes to St Giles Johor Bahru hotel, the words ‘business’ and ‘pleasure’ always come to my mind for its connectivity to several things like work around the area, healthcare at Regency Medical Care Centre and leisure at The Mall Mid Valley Southkey – all connected and tied to the hotel.

And during the fasting season, St Giles Johor Bahru’s buffet option is always a perfect choice for those who are busy at work, planning their health session, or doing their Raya shopping due to its location. Parking is ample here and those who have substituted driving with e-hailing will have no trouble dropping a pin of the location as the destination.

This year, The Iskandarian was invited by Lynn Goh, Communications Manager, to their Muhibbah Tapestry Buffet review, and the first thing I noticed was the wonderful view of the Tebrau area and its stream, coupled with the long highway route, offset by the sun that was setting in the sky. It adds to the experience of dining in at Causeway Cafe, not to mention the ample lights and comfortable chairs to support our dish-hunting session!

Slow-Roasted Spiced Whole NZ Lamb Cut

Besides the most wanted Slow-Roasted Spiced Whole NZ Lamb Cut by request, I am happy to see their iconic Roti Jala with Sardine curry made its return for this year. A traditional dish paired with household ingredients; it hits home to many with its simplicity.

My appetiser did not stop there; I had to pick up another returning item; the Chinese dumplings hot from the stove, to add to my plate.

Fresh Seafood On Ice is a must here; from prawns, crabs, mollusks and the likes, it

parallels with the grilled section, and don’t miss out on the Grilled Stingray and Ikan Cencaru with sambal, laid atop the banana leaf, making them more fragrant and appetising!

My friend made her own Penang-style Rojak Passembur before picking up Johor’s signature Mollusks (Siput Gonggong) cooked in Lemongrass and Sambal. I personally think that this type of snail can only be found in speciality seafood eateries, usually by the jetty.

The Japanese section is also another crowd favourite complete with Sushi and Sashimi, and safe some room for Dim Sums in a special wooden chest as its steamer. A rare find for me, so I would suggest taking a photo with it!

Dates, Dodol and my personal favourite, fermented cassava in banana leaf or ‘Tapai Ubi’

As breaking your fast usually begins with sweet items like dates and a glass of water, the selection of dates here is near the dessert isle. Since I had a bit of a sore throat, I stuck to a small bowl of Lai Chee Kang which felt soothing to my throat and ticking off the liquid requirements to break my fast!

The Pasta hot from the cheese wheel is also a popular choice as mains, and it was worth the wait, as the creamy and savoury carbs are perfect to replenish energy before you go to the next dish.

For desserts, there are freshly prepared Waffles and Apam Balik, and so you could mix and match the toppings and add ice cream by yourself.

I needed some enzymes after the tart taste from the traditional Tapai or fermented cassava wrapped in banana leaf and went on to pick up some cookies to pair with their hot, frothy Teh Tarik!
