Adopt a Tree for Earth Day

0

30 trees were adopted and planted at the Allamanda Golf Course by members and staff of Palm Resort Golf & Country Club to observe Earth Day, joining millions of organisations worldwide. The event was graced by Marina Ibrahim, representative from YB Alan Tee, ADUN of Senai who planted the first tree.

“The weather has become highly unpredictable lately, with the heat being extreme and rainy weather escalating to storms due to global warming. As golfers play in the open, they are the most affected by the weather conditions. The rampant clearing of forests, air, land and water pollution, are reasons for us to step on the plate to help to conserve the environment,” said Lee Tet Long, the captain of Palm Resort Golf & Country Club.

The types of trees that were chosen and purchased by members for planting were the Norfolk Pine, Golden Chain and Bucida trees, as they are able to grow up to 15 feet, providing shady canopies.

Every year the resort’s department heads will make an effort to create initiatives to observe Earth Day, and join in to educate and raise awareness about the accelerating rate of extinction of millions of plants and animal species caused by human activity.

Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on 22nd April worldwide, held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day now includes events in more than 193 countries, which are coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network.
