With a completion date of April 2026, the RM18.3 million Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) Airport project in Tanjung Laboh is anticipated to become a new landmark for Johor.
Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh, chairman of the State Public Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Communications Committee, stated that the airport, which is presently 71% finished, will have an 800-metre runway and a 12-metre-tall air traffic control tower, built on a 56-acre of land.

He wrote on his Facebook page that, “UTHM will become the first university in Southeast Asia to have its own maritime airport, while Tanjung Laboh has the potential to become the ‘Southern Maldives’ of Malaysia.”
According to him, the airport will not only be used for pilot training, but it may also be used for seaplane operations, charter flight services, and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of aircraft and helicopters.
