The annual Pinktober Run Iskandar Puteri 2024 brought together 800 participants of all ages to raise awareness and show solidarity for the fight against breast cancer at Gateway Garden, Medini City in conjunction with the Iskandar Puteri City Council’s Car-Free Day.
A donation of RM5,000 that was raised through ticket sales was also made to the Breast Cancer Support Society Segamat, Johor, where it will fund essential services, including medical transportation, emotional counselling, and recovery support groups for patients and survivors.
Zorrilah Ab Hamid, a representative from the Breast Cancer Support Society Segamat, expressed her heartfelt appreciation, “We are deeply grateful for this generous contribution. These funds will be instrumental in supporting breast cancer patients and survivors, providing them with vital services to aid in their recovery.”
Reflecting on the significance of the event, Dato’ Haji Mohd Haffiz bin Haji Ahmad, Mayor of Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP), said that “MBIP is proud to co-host the Pinktober Run Iskandar Puteri 2024, to not only promote a healthier and more active lifestyle but to also raise crucial awareness about breast cancer.”
“By combining these efforts, we aim to encourage the community to adopt sustainable practices while supporting a meaningful cause. It’s an initiative that aligns with one of MBIP’s objectives to foster a healthier and more environmentally conscious city,” he added.
“As the main sponsor of the Pinktober Run for cancer awareness, Yayasan JCorp remains steadfast in our commitment to uplifting communities by addressing critical health challenges,” said Zaidatul Zurita Abdul Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan Johor Corporation.
“This initiative is closely aligned with our Community Well-Being pillar, which seeks to tackle socio-economic issues, promote well-being, and create opportunities for growth. By driving cancer awareness, encouraging early detection, and offering support to those affected, we not only aim to inform but to empower individuals to lead healthier lives. Through these efforts, we strive to build stronger, increasingly resilient communities for the future,” she further explained.
Echoing this sentiment, Coaction Events have also been dedicated to the cause through the organisation of the Pinktober Run.
“For the past three years, Coaction Events has been dedicated to organising this run to support breast cancer awareness. The amount of support we’ve received from the community has been incredibly touching. Our first Pinktober Run was held at Persada Johor, and last year it was a night run at Dataran Johor Bahru.
As the event continues to grow and evolve, this year’s run in Medini City marks another milestone in our efforts to spread awareness even further. Most importantly, we hope to raise awareness among everyone, including men that they too are at risk of breast cancer. It’s our mission to make sure this message reaches as many people as possible,” added Hizrian Chaming, the Project Manager for Pinktober Run Iskandar Puteri 2024 of Coaction Events.
The impact of this mission resonates deeply with participants. Teoh Chin Teck, an avid runner, shared, “I’m so happy to finally be able to join the run this year, as I missed it the past two years. I have a close friend who suffered from breast cancer, and participating in this run is my way of showing support for her and everyone affected by this disease. This run is not just about fitness; it’s about coming together for breast cancer awareness.”
The event also featured engaging activities such as health screenings, body composition analysis, and an energetic aerobic Zumba session. Participants had the chance to win exciting prizes sponsored by Decathlon and Anytime Fitness, while Carabao provided energy drinks to keep runners refreshed. KPJ Healthcare generously offered medical support, including an on-site ambulance service.
The Pinktober Run Iskandar Puteri 2024, organised by Coaction Events together with Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) and Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA), in a joint statement said it was more than just a run—it was a celebration of unity, health, and the shared commitment to raising awareness for a cause that affects many lives.
