The joint effort hopes to banish Polio
End Polio Ride 2019 which took place mid-March saw around 300 participants cycling around Iskandar Puteri for a fun ride. Participants were flocking to Sunway Iskandar International School to register as early as 7am before assembling at the flag-off point at the foyer.
Jointly organised by Sunway Iskandar and Rotary Club of Johor Bahru Sentral, Puteri Lagoon Johor Bahru and Bandar Seri Begawan, the fully-sponsored annual charity event raised awareness to clear Polio off to extinction and also collected donations for the cause.
Registration was free for all and the routes were split into two; VIP section and Power section. The VIP section was mostly attended by family with children as young as 10 years old and beginner cyclists where they cycled around 9km of the journey. The Power section’s group were mostly seasoned cyclists and its route stretched further than 17km.
Both the groups were flagged-off at 8am, led by CEO of Sunway Iskandar, Gerard Soosay and they were closely monitored by volunteer marshals from Happy-Riders Connect members.
The finale saw cyclists returning back to the registration counter in the school to receive their medals and refreshments. The event ended with lucky draw for participants who had donated RM10 per ticket.
Proceeds collected during the event would go to Rotary Foundation’s Polio Plus Fund and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation by two-to-one.
