Johor government will implement job matching for 229 homeless people in the Johor Bahru district to help those who have the potential to change.
Johor state Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairwoman Zaiton Ismail said the cooperative effort of various parties, especially the Social Security Organisation (Socso), would begin by identifying the level of health, age and skills possessed by the candidate to be adapted to the needs of employers.
The interview programme would be held at Anjung Singgah, Yayasan Kebajikan Negara (YKN), Johor Bahru on 26th July. The main jobs offered are low-skilled positions including production operators, cleaning services and retail.
“Socso will examine the personal details of the homeless, and then provide motivation and temporary placement for them at Anjung Singgah, while also providing career ‘grooming’ sessions.
“Engagement sessions with interested employers to hire employees from this group will also be held. This would also help employers receive government incentives through the Recruitment Incentive 3.0 (Insentif Pengambilan Pekerja 3.0) for the vulnerable category,” she said in a statement.
Based on data collected by the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (PBSM), 72% of the 229 homeless were aged 18 to 30 and identified as able to work.
Among other aid that her department would implement includes assistance for individuals without housing, health problems, mental disorders or help them come home to their families through profiling by the Social Welfare Department (JKM). According to Zaiton, to date, 108 individuals in the state have since returned to their respective families.
