In phase two of the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme, about 100,000 Malaysians employed in Singapore are scheduled to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (MOSTI) have agreed to the matter, which will be introduced in phases, according to Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Ir. Haji Hasni Mohammad.
“The ministry has decided to send the vaccine to Singapore staff soon.”
“We know that about 400,000 Malaysians work in Singapore on a regular basis, however, the ministry has decided that 100,000 people will receive the vaccine in the first stage,” he told reporters after the launch of the Johor Farmers Organisation (PPNJ) — All Cosmos Industries Mentor Mentee programme in Pontian.
When asked about the COVID-19 vaccine for Malaysians working in Singapore, Hasni said that MOSTI is working on a registration system for this purpose.
“They are entitled to be vaccinated under the second process. Not only for the vulnerable, comorbid, and those aged 80 and over, but also for those who travel to work in Singapore,” he said.
Once the border is reopened, he hopes that the move will restore and boost the state’s economy, including the service, manufacturing, and education sectors.
In order to combat the spread of COVID-19, he also urged residents in the state to register for the vaccine.
Hasni also stated that the state government is committed to ensuring the success of the Food Supply Guarantee programme through a mentor-mentee programme run in partnership with PPNJ and All Cosmos Industries.
He mentioned that All Cosmos Industries has committed RM400,000 to the programme in order to assist in the creation of more agricultural entrepreneurs.
He continued, “This effort is highly encouraged because Johor has the potential to become a food producer, especially as the country’s largest fruit producer.”
