The State Government, through the Muar District Office in collaboration with Tourism Johor, Muar Municipal Council, and various agencies, had organised a Jom Jelajah Muo 2024 FAM Trip for 2 days & 1 night on 19 – 20 December 2024 as an initiative to promote local tourism destinations, showcase uniqueness, and boost tourism activities in the Muar District, as well as preparations towards the implementation of Visit Johor Year 2026.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Haji Zainal Bin Eran, Muar District Officer in Tanjung Emas Muar and joined by various media practitioners and agencies as well as several industry players from the Mersing Tourism Association and Batu Pahat Tourism.
Widely known as the City of Queen (Bandar Maharani) and Royal City (Bandar Diraja), Muar is also rich in its history and various unique features.
Muar River
The Muar River is not only beautiful but also holds historical stories that shape our identity. The Muar River, which is around 190 kilometres long, is indeed famous for its unique seafood. In the (City—Parit Tiram) section, there are many oysters that are still harvested by diving by local residents.
Sungai Muar/Sungai Panchor in the Mukim Panchor area; are rich in prawns and Baung fish.
Iconic Food
When Muar is mentioned, people will definitely associate it with iconic foods such as Mee Bandung (Mee Bandung Abu Bakar Hanapiah), Asam Pedas (Parit Jawa, Asam Pedas JJ, Asam Pedas Warung Kilat), Lontong Satay (Satay Warisan, Satay Dhuha), Rojak Petis (Tanjung Emas), Coffee (Kopi 434), and many more. What better way to enjoy it then making a leisure trip there to savour all these favourite local delights.
Rice Fields
Sungai Balang, a lovely rice field area in the Muar District, is undoubtedly one of the most alluring attractions, particularly for those who enjoy the rustic charm and unspoiled landscape. The Muar Rice Field Kite Festival is also annually organised by the district office in association with Tourism Johor.
It was held for the second time from 7th – 8th October 2024, and was well received, drawing in about 10,000 visitors overall.
Culture & Arts
Not to be overlooked are the locals’ pride in their arts and culture. Currently, Muar has several Zapin and Ghazal groups that are active in performing. In Kampung Gersik, Sungai Balang, there is the Mbah Anang Palace, which is a symbol of the art and history of the Javanese community in the Muar District.
Eco-Tourism
There are several places that have the concept of ecotourism, including:
- Parit Kassim Mangrove Site and Parit Jawa: Mangrove Swamp and Snail Habitat.
- Muar Hot Springs: Enjoy the natural beauty in or relax in the hot springs (Free admission
Seri Menanti and Tanjung Ketapang Beach: To enjoy the sunset in the evening.
- Parit Nipah: A jetty surrounded by Nipah forest and Nira trees plus it is built by local fishermen.
The Muar District Office organised a number of interesting activities for the two days, including river cruise in Tanjung Emas, visits to Kopi 434, Kasia Pillai (which manufactures and sells a variety of branded herbal and spice products both locally and abroad), Bakau Land, Parit Kassim, D’Impian Agro Farm, Sungai Belukang, Sg Gersik Hot Spring, visits and activities at Embah Anang Palace, Parit Bugis, and Muar Art Gallery. In the night, visitors were taken to Lorong Kopi-Kopi and Muar Uptown and no trip is complete without dining at Abu Bakar Hanipah Mee Bandung Restaurant, Medan Ikan Bakar Sabak Awor, Ole-Ole Maharani Land, and Asam Pedas Kilat.
The night concluded sussessfully at the nature-themed Desa Keroma Eco Resort Muo.
